(2024) Service Bulletin 24010 Rev A: GTS Processor Software Version 4.05

PRODUCTS AFFECTED:

All GTS Processor units (GTS 825/855/8000) with software version 4.04 (or earlier) that are not installed as part of a GX000 Integrated Flight Deck System (e.g. GX000, G900X® Flight Deck, Embraer Prodigy, Cirrus Perspective) are affected.

The current GTS Processor software version can be viewed by using the GTS Install Tool (refer to the Modification Instructions section of this bulletin), on the software label adjacent to the GTS Processor serial number tag (for installations unable to electronically display the software part number), or on the display for those units interfaced through HSDB (e.g. GTN™ 6XX/7XX Touchscreen Avionics, G500, G500H, and G600).

CERTIFICATION AUTHORIZATION:

TSO Authorization

TSO Authorization does not provide installation airworthiness approval. Separate installation airworthiness approval is required for type-certified aircraft. Notification of revision to any Garmin STC(s) will be provided under a separate service bulletin.

COMPLIANCE:

Recommended: Compliance with TSO Service Bulletin 24010 is recommended at the next maintenance interval.

DOCUMENTATION CONSIDERATIONS:

The GTS Traffic Systems Pilot’s Guide (190-00587-02) Rev E or later is to be issued to the aircraft operator/owner before the aircraft is returned to service.

PURPOSE:

GTS Processor Software Version 4.05 contains the following changes:

• Corrected an issue when the GTS 825/855 (TAS/TCAS I) is paired with a TCAS II compatible transponder, where the transponder could incorrectly report an RA is active in the downlink message to ground stations. This does not affect TCAS II, and only affects the GTS 825/855 when connected to a TCAS II compatible transponder over ARINC 429.
• Corrected an issue as described in Garmin Service Advisory 23033, where some 1090ES ADS-B and ADS-R surface targets may erroneously appear as directional.
• Changed the behavior of the “Intruder Display Limit” configuration item to not truncate the intruder list provided to TCAS for threat analysis, but only forward to ARINC 735 compatible displays (Label 357). This only affects installations that set the display limit to less than the default of 30.
• Improved the transponder switch logic to give a longer grace period during an active transponder switch to prevent the GTS from going to Standby when both transponders report No Computed Data (NCD).
• Increased the TCAS Equipage fault delay to 5 seconds before reporting a fault due to no active transponder (TAS/TCAS I only).
• Improved the Traffic System Self Test behavior to monitor the ADS-B In test result when determining the aural annunciation at the completion of the test.
• Added a new TAS/TCAS I configuration option to inhibit automatic mode transitions at takeoff and landing.
• Improved the SURF application status reporting.
• Removed unnecessary assert for “Magnetic region outdated.”
• Improved the robustness of the assert log.
