Updating inReach Firmware and Syncing Account Changes with inReach Sync

NOTE: inReach® Sync cannot be installed to a phone or tablet. For compatible Windows and Mac operating systems, see - null.

You need to sync your inReach SE®, inReach SE+, inReach Explorer®, or inReach Explorer+ device with the inReach Sync application after making changes to your Garmin Explore™ website account (such as changing your Primary Collection,1 plan changes, Contacts, Check-in/Preset messages,2 or Quick Text messages). It also applies any available firmware updates to your device.

Using inReach Sync for Windows

  1. Plug the inReach into the computer with the Garmin cable.
  2. Launch inReach Sync from the computer.

  3. inReach Sync will automatically detect your inReach and begin syncing.

What If My Plan is Suspended?

Only data from the account and firmware updates (excluding the inReach Mini) will sync to an inReach device while suspended.

Data recorded by an inReach device will not sync to Earthmate® or to the Garmin Explore website. Data recorded during this period will sync once the account has an active subscription.


1 For new customers, the default setting is to sync everything in your Library when you pair a new device. Primary Collections can be set to control where new data created on the device (waypoints, routes, and tracks) is transferred to within the Garmin Explore account's Library.
