How do I install maps to my computer with Garmin Express?

Garmin Express has the ability to install maps to compatible computers for use with BaseCamp and MapInstall.1

To install maps to the computer:

  1. Connect the device to the computer
  2. Open or Launch Garmin Express if the application does not start automatically
    • Windows: Open Garmin Express from the Windows Start menu, Start screen, or the Desktop shortcut icon
    • Mac: Launch Garmin Express from the Applications folder or Spotlight
  3. Select a device that has a map update available
  4. Click Check for Updates if a map update does not display
    • NOTE: maps cannot currently be installed to the computer if the map update has already been successfully installed to the device. This feature is only available on the initial installation attempt.
  5. Click View Details
  6. Click Installation Options
  7. Select Computer and Device
    • Windows Only: If necessary, click Browse to change the map install location
  8. Click Install
  9. Click Accept
  10. Click Yes or Continue when the User Account Control prompt displays  (Windows only)

After a successful installation, the map can now be used with compatible Garmin applications.

1Maps can be viewed on a computer using BaseCamp without having the map image permanently installed, thus freeing up drive space. Simply connect the Garmin device to the computer for the map image to be read by BaseCamp.
