Garmin updates the BlueChart g2 and g2 Vision charts twice a year. At that time, any older version of BlueChart g2 and g2 Vision cards can be updated to the newest version for a fee. Here is a link to the "BlueChart g2 and g2 vision Update Programs" webpage that explains all of the information below in this FAQ.
If a preprogrammed BlueChart g2 or g2 Vision (microSD/SD) is to be updated, there are two options to update it to the newest version:
The first option is to download the newest update directly onto the preprogrammed microSD/SD card. To do this, visit Garmin's Map Update Page. There are certain situations where an update will be offered free of charge. If the card that is being updated is not offered a free update, there will be a fee for the update.
Note: To reduce the chance for errors, register the unit being used before updating.
The second option is to purchase a BlueChart g2 or g2 Vision card directly from an authorized dealer and submit a mail in rebate form to receive a check for the discounted price of the update.
This method involves the following steps:
If a BlueChart g2 (Garmin Data Card) is to be updated, there is only one option to update it to the newest version. To update the Garmin Data card version, it will need to be returned to Garmin, and you will receive a 50% discount toward Garmin's list price for the same, or equivalent, region. Only 1 update or trade-in per new BlueChart card is allowed. To return your BlueChart g2 Garmin Data Card for an update, contact Garmin cartography at (800) 800-1020 or Cartography@garmin.com to obtain a Return Material Authorization (RMA) number. The RMA number must appear on the outside of the shipping package, and the original card must be shipped freight prepaid to Garmin at 1200 E. 151st St., Olathe, KS 66062.
If you want to update formats (ex. upgrade from BlueChart g2 to BlueChart g2 Vision) or change region coverage area or size, the Rebate Trade-in Program detailed above should be used.
