How do I uninstall the Garmin Lifetime Map Updater from the Mac?

The Garmin Lifetime Map Updater application has been discontinued and replaced by Garmin Express. If both programs are installed, uninstall the Garmin Lifetime Map Updater and use Garmin Express for future updates.

  1. Click the Garmin Lifetime Map Updater blue triangle icon on the Mac menu bar
  2. Click Quit
  3. To confirm, click Quit again
  4. Open Macintosh HD
  5. Click the Applications folder
  6. Click and drag "Garmin Lifetime Map Updater.app" to the Trash
  7. Click the Go menu at the top of the Mac menu bar
  8. Click Home
  9. Click the Library folder1
  10. Click the Preferences folder
  11. Click and drag "com.garmin.LifetimeMapUpdate.plist" to the Trash
  12. Navigate back to the Library folder1
  13. Click the Caches folder
  14. Click and drag "com.garmin.LifetimeMapUpdate" to the Trash
  15. Navigate back to the Library folder1
  16. Click the Application Support folder
  17. Click the Garmin folder
  18. Click and drag the "Garmin Lifetime Map Updater" folder to the Trash
  19. Empty the Trash

Once completed, the Garmin Lifetime Map Updater application will be removed from the Mac. The Garmin Express application can be downloaded from http://software.garmin.com/express.html.

1The Library folder is hidden in Mac OS 10.7 and newer. To access the Library folders:

  1. Click the Go menu at the top of the Mac menu bar
  2. Click Go to Folder
  3. Enter Library
  4. Click Go
