Updating Garmin Dash Cam Software using Garmin Express

The Garmin Express™ software can be used to update Garmin Dash Cam™ driving recorders. See How Do I Install Garmin Express?. 

You may also use the Garmin Drive app to install software updates on compatible dash cams.

• The Garmin Dash Cam 45/55/65W driving recorders are not compatible with the Garmin Drive app.

NOTE: Following the steps below can cause the update not to install properly in Garmin Express in rare cases on the Garmin Dash Cam 45, 46, 54, 55, 56, 65W, or 66W. See Garmin Dash Cam Software won't Install Following Garmin Express Instructions if you're having problems. 

To Update Software Using Garmin Express:

1. Connect your device to the computer

2. Open Garmin Express 

3. Choose or Add a device

4. Click Install

Garmin Express will now install the software updates to your Garmin Dash Cam.

Troubleshooting a Connection Issue with a Garmin Dash Cam and Garmin Express

There may be an issue if the dash cam could not completely boot up.  This could be caused by:

• No memory card installed in the dash cam.
  • A memory card in the device is required in order for Garmin Express to recognize the device and to provide the software update. 
  • See SD Memory Card Compatibility for Garmin Dash Cams for compatibility. 
• Memory card is not properly formatted. See the formatting steps for your dash cam:
  • a Display Screen.
  • a Display Screen.
  • Formatting a Memory Card on a Garmin Dash Cam Tandem.
• Not enough power received from connected USB port.
• Not connected with a data cable.
• Pending software update already downloaded to camera, but not "installed." (Must connect to power to finish installing.)
