Length of Video Files on a Dash Cam Enabled Device
Video footage will appear continuous when viewed in the gallery of your dash cam, in the Garmin Drive app, or in the Vault1.
However, when viewing the raw files inside the memory card of the device, unsaved video files will appear as 1 minute long fragments and saved video files will appear as 30 second fragments.
When video footage is viewed on the computer, depending on the third-party software being used, the files may also appear in increments. Some third-party software may allow for the editing of these incremental files.
When an event is detected or a video is saved, the device will save the previous 15 second video clip and the next 15 second video recording clip. Each of these clips will be approximately 30 seconds in length around the time of the incident or saved video.
- If another save is initiated while a save is in progress, the length of the saved video will be extended (up to 1 minute).
- NOTE: The dash cam will save an additional 15 seconds to any saved recordings from the time of the button press, not to the end of the video, and the saved video will not exceed 1 minute in total length regardless of when or how many additional times the button is pressed.
For information on viewing video files using a smartphone, see the owner's manual for the device.
Note: Video files will occasionally be shorter than the default length of time if the save is initiated shortly after the dash cam begins recording, if the recording is stopped manually, or if there is an interruption such as power loss.
