Understanding Tracking and Logging with an inReach Mini
An inReach Mini has the ability to both keep an internal log of its previous GPS positions and send track points to its associated MapShare page at a specified tracking interval.
These two features, the logging of previous GPS locations and sending of track points at specified intervals, are very similar but have distinct differences.
Understanding the Difference Between Log Interval and Send Interval
Log Interval
The Log Interval determines how often the inReach records a log of its GPS position to store internally. The log interval to record these points can be changed in the settings on the unit. Because the inReach Mini does not have a map screen, the data remains stored on the device until it is connected and synced using the inReach Sync program. Once synced the log information will be available on Earthmate and the Map tab of your Explore account.
Changing the Log Interval:
- Press OK to open the menu
- Select Setup
- Select Tracking
- Select Log Interval
- Select the desired Log Interval setting
IMPORTANT
Log points collected by the inReach are NOT sent to your MapShare page or account via satellite communication. Because of this, until the points are uploaded, friends or family members viewing your MapShare page will not be able to see your high-detail line of logged positions.
Send Interval
The Send Interval determines how often your device will send track points with the current GPS position, elevation, speed and heading of the device to your MapShare page. The default interval to send these points is once every ten minutes and can be changed in the device settings. Friends and family members that you send your MapShare link to will be able to see each track point that is sent to your account and follow along with your progress.
Changing the Send Interval:
- Press OK to open the menu
- Select Setup
- Select Tracking
- Select Send Interval
- Select the desired Send Interval setting
An inReach Mini does not Track or Log by default. Follow the steps below to enable or disable Tracking and Logging.
To Start Tracking:
- Press OK to open the menu
- Select Start Tracking
Your device will now display the Log and Send intervals on the screen and begin tracking
To Stop Tracking:
- Scroll to the Home screen (page with status bar showing time/battery info) or the Tracking screen
- Press OK
- Select Stop Tracking
Your device will now stop tracking and logging GPS data points.
