"OtherVersionRunningMessage" or "Unable to connect to the background service" Error on Launch of Garmin Express on a Mac

Description


After launching Garmin Express, the error message "OtherVersionRunningMessage", or "Garmin Express is unable to connect to the background service and will close" may be displayed for a couple of reasons.

  • An older version of the application was installed over a newer version
  • Another service is running and causes a conflict or blocks the service


Resolution


To correct this error message:

  1. Remove all USB external devices other than the Garmin Device (the device must be directly connected to the computer)
  2. Reboot the computer
  3. If removing all other devices and rebooting the computer fails to resolve the error, download and install the most recent version of Garmin Express: http://download.garmin.com/omt/express/B/GarminExpressInstaller.dmg

When installing Garmin Express, make sure the GarminExpressInstaller.dmg used is the one that was downloaded most recently.  For more information, see  Install Garmin Express

Garmin Express will now launch without the error message.  If not, try setting up a new Admin user on the Mac or trying another computer.
