Garmin Dash Cam Advising to Replace the Memory Card - "The memory card is degrading and video may be lost. Replace the memory card soon."
Note: microSD cards are not included with the Garmin Dash Cam 46, Garmin Dash Cam 54, Garmin Dash Cam 56 and Garmin Dash Cam 66W.
The Garmin Dash Cam will continually record footage and temporarily save it to a microSD card inserted into the device. As the SD card's capacity fills up, the device will begin to overwrite unsaved data.
Saved videos, either from manual saves or incident detection, will not be overwritten by this process. For more information, refer the Dash Cam owner's manual.
MicroSD cards have a limited number of times that they can completely overwrite previous data before wearing out. While this number is generally very high, it is possible to reach this limit over the life of the Garmin Dash Cam as it continuously records new video files.
The error messages below can appear on the Garmin Dash Cam to indicate the status of the microSD card:
- "The memory card is degrading and video may be lost. Replace the memory card soon."
- Pressing the
Select button should bypass this message; it is still advisable to replace the card soon.
- If the Select button does not allow the device to proceed, the microSD card must be replaced to continue using the device.
- Pressing the
- "The memory card has reached the end of its useful life and can no longer record videos. Insert a new memory card to begin recording."
- The microSD card must be replaced to continue using the device.
In order to receive this warning, the Garmin Dash Cam must be running software version 2.70 or newer. The latest version of the software can be installed with Garmin Express.
The Garmin Dash Cam must use a class 10 or higher microSD card and the following SD card limits:
- Garmin Dash Cam 45, Garmin Dash Cam 54, Garmin Dash Cam 55, Garmin Dash Cam 65W:
- 4 GB up to 64 GB
- Garmin Dash Cam 46, Garmin Dash Cam 56, Garmin Dash Cam 66W:
- 4 GB up to 512 GB
Larger cards will last longer, as it will take longer to completely fill and overwrite the card.
For best results, it is advised to turn off the Garmin Dash Cam between uses. If the Garmin Dash Cam is left powered on between uses, it will continue to save and overwrite video. This can result in the microSD card reaching its limit sooner than expected.
