MARPA symbols not appearing on the radar page

Various Mini Automatic Radar Plotting Aid (MARPA) symbols can appear on a users radar page. Each symbol represents something unique and is described in additional detail below.

Geometric symbols represent the different status of objects displayed from the radar:

  • The "Square" symbol represents "Acquiring Target"
  • The "Circle" symbol represents "Target is Safe"
  • The "Triangle" symbol represents "Target is Dangerous"
  • The "Diamond" symbol represents "Lost Target"

If you would like for these symbols to appear on your radar display, a heading sensor and a radar will need to be connected to the chartplotter. For more information on a heading sensor, please see Related Content.

To display the MARPA symbols on the GPSMAP 3xxx series, please follow these instructions:

  1. While on the radar page, press the MARPA soft key
  2. Use the Direction Pad to move the cursor overtop of the object to track
  3. With the cursor over the object, press the Acquire Target soft key. This can be done for multiple targets.

To display the MARPA  symbols on the GPSMAP 10x2, 12x2, 4xxx and 6xxx series chartplotters, please follow these instructions:

  1. While on the radar page, use the Direction Pad to move the cursor overtop of the object to track
  2. Press the Acquire Target button
  3. Press the MARPA Target button
  4. The next screen will review information about the target that was chosen, press the Back button to return to the radar page

To display the MARPA symbols on the GPSMAP 5xxx, 7x2, 70xx/72xx, 74xx/76xx (xsv), 8xxx and 9x2 series chartplotters, please follow these instructions:

  1. While on the radar page, touch the screen in the location of the target that is to be tracked
  2. Press the Acquire Target button
  3. Press the MARPA Target button
  4. The next screen will review information about the target that was chosen, press the Back button to return to the radar page
