"Wrong Format" SD Card Message on a Garmin Drive Series Device

The Garmin Drive series devices, including the Garmin DriveTrack 70, do not recognize some older mapping SD cards smaller than 4 GB. Discontinued older maps for certain regions are preloaded on 2 GB SD cards.

If inserting a microSD card that is 2 GB or smaller, the device may display a message asking to format the card in the device. DO NOT format the card, as this will erase the mapping information from the preloaded card and the map cannot be recovered. The map content is unlocked only to that specific SD card. It is not possible to transfer the mapping data to a larger SD card.

A current map will need to be used in order for the Garmin Drive Series device to read it properly.

If attempting to download mapping from Garmin to load to the Garmin DriveTrack 70, a blank 4 GB or larger SD card must be used. It is recommended to format that blank card before attempting to do the download. See  Formatting a microSD/SD Memory Card
