Interpreting the HD Digital Traffic Map
Note: Additional accessories (cable/mount) may be required to receive HD Digital Traffic.
The HERETM HD Digital Traffic map is an interactive map used to determine traffic coverage. The coverage map can be found here.
To use the Coverage Map:
- Click the arrow in the search box above the map
- Alternatively, you can type the name of the city in this box
- Scroll down, and select the closest covered city from within the list
- Click the + and - symbols on the right side of the map to zoom
- Click and drag your mouse across the map to pan the map
It is important to properly interpret the HD Digital Traffic signal strength to get an accurate picture of areas of service.
Color coding is used to determine signal strength. Garmin automotive devices are considered Portable Navigation devices, so the dark blueish gray area is where you can expect to find coverage. The light blueish gray area is expected coverage for GPS devices built into the dash of a vehicle (i.e. non-Garmin vehicle systems, Garmin Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) systems, etc.).
If you are in light blueish gray coverage, one choice to boost reception is to use an optional Antenna Extension Cable. While we cannot guarantee this accessory will provide a reliable signal, it may be enough to receive a weaker signal in some areas. This accessory is only compatible with GTM 36, GTM 60, or BC 30 vehicle power cables.
