Downloading Maps With the Garmin Explore App
TopoActive maps and satellite imagery from around the world as well as USGS quads can be downloaded for viewing and use in the Garmin Explore™ app without a purchase. Additional map layers are available for offline use with an Outdoor Maps+ annual plan. For more information, see - Getting Started With Outdoor Maps Plus in the Garmin Explore App.
Use the instructions below to download maps and manage them in the app. For more details on the different maps that are available without a purchase, as well as the additional maps that are available with an Outdoor Maps+ annual plan, see - Garmin Explore App Map Features and Legend.
Downloading Maps
NOTE: A data connection is required for downloading maps. Due to the size of the downloads, Garmin® highly recommends using a high-speed Wi-Fi® connection. Maps downloaded to the Garmin Explore app cannot be loaded to a Garmin device.
Open the Garmin Explore app.
Select an option:
Select
Offline Maps >
New Offline Map.
-OR-
Select
Map >
> Create Offline Map.
Drag the map to view different areas.
Pinch or spread two fingers on the screen to zoom in and out of the map.
Swipe up and select which layers to download.
NOTE: Tap
to the right of a layer for a description.
The TopoActive layer will also include Relief Shading, SD (Standard Definition) Contour Lines, and Hiking Popularity map details that can be toggled on or off by selecting
after the TopoActive layer has been downloaded.
With an Outdoor Maps+ annual plan, the Topo layer will also include HD (High Definition) Contour Lines, Hydro, Outdoor POI, and PLSS map details that can be toggled on or off by selecting
after the Topo layer has been downloaded.
Once you have selected the area and layers to download, select Save.
