Moving the Garmin eLog ELD to a Different Truck

The Garmin eLog™ Compliant ELD system, comprised of the Garmin eLog ELD and the paired smartphone with the Garmin eLog™ app installed, or the Garmin eLog ELD paired with a compatible dēzl, may be moved and installed into a new truck.

The Garmin eLog ELD will save the electronic logs from the previous truck and will record all information going forward from the new truck. In order to record the information from the new truck, the adapter must be installed on the new truck and the vehicle must be driving.

When the ELD is switched to another vehicle (permanently not temporarily) it becomes necessary to ensure the VIN also is changed.

  • When moving the ELD to a different vehicle, the ELD should automatically detect the VIN from the other vehicle's ECM.
    • If it doesn't detect it, it will recognize it's a different vehicle and either prompt to enter or allow you to edit the VIN.
    • You can edit by touching Vehicle at the bottom in the eLog app.

NOTE: The Garmin eLog ELD is capable of retaining electronic records for a period of at least 6 months.
