Error Message "Other Version Running" or "Garmin Express is Unable to Connect to the Background Service" is Displayed After Launching Garmin Express on a Mac
After launching the Garmin Express™ software, the error messages "Other Version Running" or "Garmin Express is unable to connect to the background service and will close" may be displayed for one of the following reasons:
An older version of the application was installed over a newer version.
Another service is running, causing a conflict or blocking the service.
To Correct the Error Message:
- Remove all USB external devices other than the Garmin device
- The Garmin device must be directly connected to the computer
- Follow steps in Full Uninstall of Garmin Express
- Restart the computer
- Download and install the most recent version of Garmin Express by following the steps in How Do I Install Garmin Express Software?
When installing Garmin Express, make sure to use the most recently downloaded GarminExpressInstaller.dmg file.
Garmin Express will now launch without the error message. If the error message persists, try setting up a new Admin user on the Mac or try using another computer.
