Creating a Profile in the Garmin AB Synapse App
Applied Ballistics is transitioning from AB Synapse™ to using AB Quantum™ app. AB Synapse is still currently available for use with a Garmin compatible device but will not receive any further updates. For best results users should move to the AB Quantum app for, iOS and Android.
Using the Applied Ballistics Quantum App With a Garmin Watch
Getting Started with Applied Ballistics on the Montana 700 Series
Creating a profile in the Garmin AB Synapse™ app allows you to custom create your rifle and bullet profiles, and to sync with your compatible1 Garmin device. If you have not already paired your device with the AB Synapse app follow the steps in Getting Started with your device (see related content below).
NOTE: Profiles created on the Garmin device will not sync to the app.
Getting Started within the App
Your current selected device is listed at the top of the app along with your level of subscription.
Selecting the three dots in the upper right corner of the app will open your user settings, allowing you to adjust units, temperature, or connect to a different device.
Profiles are listed under the Profile Name (there will always need to be at least one profile).
Use the toggle and Send to Garmin Device to upload any profile changes or new profiles to your paired device.
Selecting New Profile next to the profile name will allow you to custom name your profile.

Bullet Properties
There are two ways to setup the bullet properties within the AB Synapse app. You can use the Bullet Database loaded with preset bullets, or tap each field and fill in your pre-determined bullet information.
Using the bullet database:
Select Bullet Database.
Select the caliber of the bullet.
Select the bullet manufacturer.
Select the correct grain and type of bullet.
After selecting the bullet type you are prompted to select the bullet drag model.
If you are unsure of your bullet drag model it is suggested to check with the bullet manufacturer.
NOTE: Depending on your level of Applied Ballistics subscription some bullet profiles will have a personalized drag model or PDM. This is predetermined information supplied by Applied Ballistics and the CDM drag curve should be used for these profiles.
Gun Properties
Creating a gun profile is the base of adjustments being done when creating a calculation. Each applicable field will need to be filled in manually. Using a chronograph with the gun and bullet to be used is needed to create an accurate Gun Profile.
Muzzle Velocity - the speed of the bullet as it leaves the muzzle.
Zero Range - the range at which the rifle was zeroed.
Sight Height - the distance from the center axis of the rifle barrel to the center axis of the scope.
Twist Rate - the distance it takes for the rifling of your barrel to make one full rotation. Rifle twist is often provided by the gun or barrel manufacturer.
SSF - Elevation - a linear multiplier that accounts for vertical scaling. Not all rifle scopes track perfectly, so the ballistics solution requires a correction to scale according to a particular rifle scope.
For example, if a turret is moved 10 mil but the impact is 9 mil, the sight scale is 0.9.
SSF - Windage - a linear multiplier that accounts for horizontal scaling. Not all rifle scopes track perfectly, so the ballistics solution requires a correction to scale according to a particular rifle scope.
For example, if a turret is moved 10 mil but the impact is 9 mil, the sight scale is 0.9.
Zero Height - an optional modification to impact elevation at zero range. This is often used when adding a suppressor or using a subsonic load.
For example, if you add a suppressor and your bullet impacts the target 1 inch higher than expected, your Zero Height is 1 inch. It's important to remember to set this to zero when you remove the suppressor.
Zero Offset - an optional modification to impact windage at zero range. This is often used when adding a suppressor or using a subsonic load.
For example, if you add a suppressor and your bullet impacts the target 1 inch to the left of the expected impact, your Zero Offset is -1 inch. It's important to remember to set this to zero when you remove the suppressor.
Muzzle Velocity Temp Table
Muzzle velocity temp table is a range of temperatures at which the gun was measured with a chronograph to determine the bullets' speeds at varying temperatures.
