Why the zūmo XT2 Is Not Charging
NOTE: A zūmo® XT2 GPS navigator that has not been used for an extended period may take a longer time to power on when connected to a power source and indicate it is charging. The device may power on and immediately power off like it is rebooting and then power back on.
The zūmo XT2 will only charge when certain conditions are met.
When connected to a motorcycle mount, the zūmo XT2 will only charge if it is powered on. If the zūmo XT2 is placed in sleep/standby mode (if available) or powered off, then it will not charge.
When connected to an automotive mount and connected to the proper vehicle power cable, the zūmo XT2 will charge regardless of whether it is on or in sleep/standby mode. The device will not charge in off mode and must be powered on to charge.
When connected to a powered mount and the mount is wired correctly, the zūmo XT2 should automatically power on, even if the battery is completely discharged. Once the device is powered on, it will begin charging. If the zūmo XT2 does not power on within a few seconds, perform a soft reset. See zūmo XT2 Frozen or Not Powering On for instructions.
When connected to a computer via a USB cable, the zūmo XT2 will not charge. Plugging the USB cable into the device will not charge the zūmo. Most computers will provide adequate power to keep the device on when using a computer for updates or data transfer, but it will NOT charge the zūmo XT2. You may get an error message when the device is connected this way. See "The device is not charging" Message or Red Battery Icon on the zūmo XT2 for more information.
When connected to a 2 AMP AC power adapter, the zūmo XT2 should charge when on or in sleep/standby. The device will not charge in off mode. A charger with less than 2A will not charge the device, or may only charge it at an exceptionally slow rate. Charging on the powered mount is the recommended form of charging.
Temperature and exposure to sunlight can also prevent battery charging. If the zūmo XT2 gets too warm or too cold, the battery will no longer charge as a means of preventing overheating.
Differences Between an Automotive Mount and a Motorcycle Mount
- An automotive mount mounts the device in a regular vehicle instead of a motorcycle, typically via suction cup, and receives power with a 12 volt Vehicle Power Cable, see example automotive mount kits below:
- A motorcycle mount mounts the device on a motorcycle, typically via the handle bars. The device receives power from a motorcycle power cable that is wired into the bike and connected through the mount, so when the device is placed on the mount and powered on, it will charge. See example motorcycle mounts below:
