Adding and Deleting Photos or Screenshots From a Garmin Device
Garmin devices can store photos taken on the device or transferred to it within the internal memory. If needed, you can connect the device to a computer to add or delete images.
Adding Photos to a Device
Photos can be added to a device with our BaseCamp program, through wireless data transfer, or by dragging and dropping files into the JPEG folder. After they have been transferred to the device, they can then be viewed using the device's Photo Viewer.
Once images have been imported, transfer them to the device using one of the following methods:
Device Menu
Connect the device to the computer using the provided USB cable.
Power on the device, if needed.
Open BaseCamp.
Wait for the device to be listed on the left.
Examples:
Select the folder ( ) or list () that contains the data you wish to transfer.
NOTE: to transfer all saved data to the device, select My Collection.
Select Device (Windows) or Transfer (Mac) in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Select Send ['Name'] to Device.
Select the device.
On Mac you will also be prompted to select checkboxes for the items to transfer.
Select OK (Windows) or Send (Mac).
The image(s) will now be transferred to the device.
Drag and Drop
Connect the device to the computer using the provided USB cable.
Power on the device, if needed.
Open BaseCamp.
Wait for the device to be listed on the left.
Examples:
Select the folder ( ) or list () that contains the data you wish to transfer.
The files contained in the folder or list will now be shown in the lower-left panel. Click and drag the desired file(s) onto the device's internal storage.
The image(s) will now be transferred to the device.
Right-Click
Connect the device to the computer using the provided USB cable.
Power on the device, if needed.
Open BaseCamp.
Wait for the device to be listed on the left.
Examples:
Right-click the folder ( ) or list () that contains the data you wish to transfer.
Mac users: Right-click or press and hold the Control key while you click.
Select Send To... (Windows) or Send To Your Device... (Mac).
Select the device.
On Mac you will also be prompted to select checkboxes for the items to transfer.
Select OK (Windows) or Send (Mac).
The image(s) will now be transferred to the device.
Sending & Receiving Images Wirelessly
Before you can share data wirelessly, you must be within 3 m (10 ft.) of a compatible Garmin device.
Your device can send and receive data wirelessly when connected with a compatible Garmin device using ANT+ technology. For a list of devices compatible with wireless data transfer of photos or custom maps, see Wireless Unit to Unit Data Transfer.
General steps are provided below. For instructions that are specific to your Garmin model, refer to your owner's manual.
From the main menu, select Share Wirelessly.
Select an option:
Select Send, and select a type of data.
Select Receive to receive data from another device. The other compatible device must be attempting to send data.
Follow the on-screen instructions.
Adding Photos Directly to the JPEG Folder
If your device does not already have a JPEG folder, you can create one in the Garmin folder of the device. This will allow you to add photos directly to the JPEG folder.
Windows
Connect your Garmin device to the computer using the USB data/charging cable.
Press Windows key + E on the keyboard to open Windows/File Explorer.
Select This PC (Windows 10 and Windows 11 only).
Open the Garmin drive listed.
Select Models: After opening the Garmin drive, open the drive labeled Primary or Internal Storage.
Windows 10/11
Windows 7/8
Double-click the Garmin folder to open it.
Right-click a blank area in the Garmin folder to access the quick menu.
Select New > Folder.
Rename the new folder JPEG.
Once the JPEG folder has been added to the device drive, you can drag and drop the image directly in the JPEG folder.
Mac
NOTE: The GPSMAP® 67, GPSMAP 67i, Montana® 710, Montana 710i, and Montana 760i outdoor devices are not recognized as external drives on Mac computers. A Windows computer must be used to access the folders on one of these devices
Connect your Garmin device to the computer using the USB data/charging cable.
Open Finder.
Select Go in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Select Computer.
Open the Garmin drive.
Right-click a blank area in the Garmin folder to access the quick menu.
Select New Folder.
Rename the new folder JPEG.
Once the JPEG folder has been added to the device drive, you can drag and drop the image directly in the JPEG folder.
Deleting Photos Taken on the Device
Photos taken on the device will be stored in the DCIM folder on the device.
Windows
Connect the Garmin device to the computer.
Press the Windows key + E on the keyboard to open Windows Explorer/File Explorer.
Select This PC (Windows 10 & 11 only).
Open the Garmin drive listed.
Select Models: After opening the Garmin drive, open the drive labeled Primary or Internal Storage.
Windows 10/11

Open the DCIM folder.
NOTE: The photos may be stored in a subfolder.
Select the file(s) you wish to delete.
Press Delete on the keyboard.
Confirm you wish to permanently remove these items if prompted.
Your device will no longer display the deleted files.
Mac
NOTE: The GPSMAP® 67, GPSMAP 67i, Montana® 710, Montana 710i, and Montana 760i outdoor devices are not recognized as external drives on Mac computers. A Windows computer must be used to access the folders on one of these devices
Connect the Garmin device to the computer.
Open Finder.
Select Go in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Select Computer.
Open the Garmin drive.
Open the DCIM folder.
NOTE: The photos may be stored in a subfolder.
Drag file(s) you wish to delete to the Trash.
Click the Trash icon.
Click the Empty button in the upper-right corner of the Finder window.
Confirm you wish to permanently remove these items if prompted.
Drag the Garmin device drive to Trash to safely eject it from the computer.
Your device will no longer display the deleted files.
Deleting Photos Transferred From BaseCamp Software or Screenshots on the Device
Screenshots taken on the device will be stored in the Screenshots subfolder inside the Garmin folder. Pictures transferred from BaseCamp software will be stored in the JPEG subfolder inside the Garmin folder.

Connect the Garmin device to the computer.
Press the Windows key + E on the keyboard to open Windows Explorer/File Explorer.
Select This PC (Windows 10 & 11 only).
Open the Garmin drive listed.
Select Models: After opening the Garmin drive, open the drive labeled Primary or Internal Storage.

Open the Garmin folder.
Open the JPEG, Scrn, or Screenshot folder.
Select the file(s) you with to delete.
Press Delete on the keyboard.
Confirm you wish to permanently remove these items if prompted.
