Resolving Issues with the Garmin Elevated Installer in Windows
The installation of Garmin maps and software requires that the current user have administrative privileges. In Windows, the Garmin Express™ software uses the Elevated Installer to install maps to the computer, if that option is selected. The Elevated Installer package elevates the current installation privileges of the user to allow the software to install properly.
However, if you are logged into the computer as a non-administrator user, or if your user profile lacks the correct permissions, the Elevated Installer cannot run, which will prevent the Garmin Express application from installing the map files to the PC. The message "Elevated Installer has stopped working" may appear.
Running the application as an administrator may resolve this.
To Run Garmin Express as an Administrator:
- Locate the Garmin Express icon (on the Start Menu or Desktop)
- Right-click the Garmin Express icon
- Click Run as Administrator
- If using the Windows 10 or newer Start menu, select More.
See below for screenshots of this process.
From Start Menu
This should now allow the map to be installed onto the computer.
From Desktop
This should now allow the map to be installed onto the computer.
