GMRS Only Communicating with Dual Band FRS/GMRS
The majority of Rino® 2-way radios for use in the US and Canada communicate on a dual frequency FRS/GMRS. Due to changes in FCC rules all new Rino devices created by Garmin will be GMRS only. Whether GMRS only or dual band, Rino devices will not have any problem communicating with one another providing they are still on the same frequency channel and using the same squelch code. For more assistance with setting up the Rino review the owner's manual.

GMRS Rules and Regulations
The Rino® 2-way radio operates on General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) frequencies regulated by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States. Operation on the GMRS frequencies is subject to rules as specified in 47 C.F.R. Part 95. In order to transmit on GMRS frequencies, you are required to obtain a license from the FCC.
You can obtain a license from the FCC by registering and applying online through their Universal Licensing System. For instructions, refer to the following FCC support articles:

Applying for a New License in the Universal Licensing System (ULS)
For more information on GMRS, FCC forms, and fees, go to the FCC web page at www.fcc.gov/general-mobile-radio-service-gmrs.
No license is required to operate on GMRS channels in Canada; however, GMRS repeater channels are not approved for use by the Canadian government. GMRS repeater locations in the US can be determined with an internet search.
For use in countries outside of the United States and Canada, check with that government for any restrictions of GMRS use.
