Backing Up User Data and Charts in Garmin ActiveCaptain

The ActiveCaptain application does not store user data or charts in a cloud. This means if the application is deleted or reset, user data and charts will be removed from the application.

To restore charts, re-download the charts.

To restore user data, it is necessary to first back up the user data.

To back up user data:

  1. Open ActiveCaptain
  2. Select Chart
  3. Select Menu (indicated by 3 horizontal lines)
  4. Choose User Data
  5. At the top of the screen tap the Settings option (indicated by 3 dots)
  6. Select Export to GPX File
  7. Send the file to your email address

Once the user data has been backed up it and set to your email, it can then be imported back in to ActiveCaptain at any time, even after an application deletion or reset.

Importing User Data in to ActiveCaptain

  1. Open ActiveCaptain so that it is running in the background.
  2. Open the email containing the GPX file.
  3. Tap on the GPX file attachment.
    • Android - Will automatically go to ActiveCaptain and give the Import option.
    • iOS - Press on the Share button (square with up arrow) and Choose the ActiveCaptain application, then Choose Import.
