Update and Learn about Software for the Descent X50i Dive Computer
Garmin releases software updates periodically to ensure that you get the best performance and latest features on your device. Changes are listed in the What’s New? section below. Methods for
updating software
are described below.
What's New?
System Software July 2025 Release Notes Version 3.18
This update is starting to roll out to users on July 15th and may take up to a week before reaching your device. After updating you may be prompted to accept the dive disclaimer again.
Improvements and Bug Fixes
[In-dive Change] Fixed silent diving not actually being silent.
[In-dive Change] Improved compass to highlight the lubber line in green or red when within 2 degrees of the set heading or reciprocal.
[In-dive Change] Depth units are now hidden when depth is over 100 (m/ft) to improve readability.
Added support for the S1 SubWave Buoy.
Added ability to opt in or out of Messaging and Location Sharing when pairing transmitters or buoys. Adjust this at any time from the SubWave Features menu.
Added a warning that will occur if the device reboots due to water detection within 45 seconds of being powered down. Dry the charging pins on the back and try again to ensure the device fully shuts down.
Improved the behavior of the touch panel.
Improved ease of back swipes by increasing the width of the start area on the left side of the screen.
Improved S1 pairing stability.
Tapping the device no longer turns on the backlight automatically on the surface. Pressing the touch screen (if enabled) or buttons will continue to do so.
The default backlight timeout on the surface has been reduced to 15 seconds to conserve battery. This only applies to new or reset devices.
Fixed SubWave Features > Messaging toggle not fully disabling messaging when turned off.
Fixed an issue where starting the computer underwater (i.e. using water detection) could lead to overly conservative deco plans.
Fixed an issue when sending Dive Time SubWave messages with times over 4 hours.
Fixed constantly receiving the low transmitter battery alert when visiting the Dive Setup >Transmitters menu while a transmitter's battery is critically low.

System Software Version 1.05 November 2024 Release
Initial release software includes support for Single Gas, Multi Gas, Closed Circuit Rebreather, Gauge mode diving, SubWave™ underwater communication integration, dive planning and dive site maps.
Descent™ Transmitter Software Updates
If you have a Descent T1 or T2 transmitter, software updates for the transmitter get sent to the dive computer and then can be applied to the transmitter. The changes for transmitter software updates are noted in the dive computer software change logs, see the

Installing Software Updates
Garmin Dive™ App
The Garmin Dive app will download software updates automatically behind the scenes while your device is connected to your mobile phone. There are no steps required for you to take to get the latest software. Generally, any released updates will take up to a week to download before automatically, or prompting, to install on your device.

Garmin Express™ Software
Garmin Express software provides the ability to check for, and download software updates each time you connect your device to the computer.
