Unable to Configure Check-ins in the Garmin Messenger App

If you are attempting to edit your check-in contacts in the Garmin Messenger™ app, but the app is unable to proceed past Configuring Check-Ins, something may be preventing the app from fully saving the changes to your account.

There are some simple solutions that can resolve this.


Check The Phone's Internet Connection

A data connection on the phone (Wi-Fi or mobile data) is required when editing Check-in contacts.
  • Ensure Wi-Fi or mobile data is enabled on the phone.

  • Turn off Airplane mode.

  • Try switching from Wi-Fi to mobile data.

  • Try switching from mobile data to Wi-Fi.

  • Use a different Wi-Fi network.


Restart the Phone

Power the phone off, then power the phone back on.

Verify That Your inReach® Satellite Subscription is Active

Log in to your account on the Garmin Explore™ website, then select Plans & Devices to see if there is an active subscription associated with your inReach device.

Sign Out and Sign Back in to the App


Uninstall and Reinstall the App

  1. Uninstall the Garmin Messenger app from your mobile device.

    • Select your operating system below for instructions on how to uninstall an app. For further assistance, refer to your mobile device's user manual.

  2. Reinstall the Garmin Messenger app from your mobile device's app store.

  3. After reinstalling the app and signing back in, you will need to pair your inReach device again. For steps, see - Pairing Instructions for Garmin Messenger App Compatible inReach Devices.
