Installing a New Map Region to an Automotive Device
- In accordance with the Lifetime Maps and Maps Terms and Conditions, map updates and/or Downloadable Content (DLC) are no longer available to download or purchase and cannot be activated and/or associated with the Garmin devices listed in Map Updates and Downloadable Content No Longer Available to Download or Purchase.
- This is due to these devices not having sufficient memory capacity and other required technical capabilities to utilize current map data.
A confirmation page will display when a map is purchased from the Garmin® website. This page will include an option to launch Garmin Express™ software to install the map.
The map can be also be installed with Garmin Express without launching it from the website. This can also be useful if the map needs to be reinstalled to a device or memory card.

- This process does not apply to map updates.
- For instructions on updating the preloaded maps, go to the Support Center and enter the product name or the serial number of your device. Once your device is selected click Other and search for “Updating Automotive Maps and Software with Garmin Express”.
- Visit the Garmin Express Support page for troubleshooting assistance and options to contact Product Support.
What is Needed:
- Compatible Garmin Automotive device.
- USB cable (See Types of USB Cables Used to Connect Automotive Devices to the Computer for more information).
- SD card if the map will not fit on the internal storage of the device.
- The storage space requirements (Map File Sizes) can be found on the Requirements tab on the purchase page for the map.

- Windows or Mac computer with the Garmin Express application installed.
- High-speed internet connection.
- DSL, Cable, or other high-speed Internet connections are required. Mobile broadband (such as MiFi, AirCard, or cell phone tethering), satellite, fixed wireless, and dial-up Internet connections are not supported.
To Download the Map Using Garmin Express:
1. Connect the Garmin device to the computer with the appropriate USB cable

2. Launch Garmin Express
- Windows: Double-click the express icon in the system tray (next to the time), double-click the shortcut on the desktop, or search for Garmin Express in the Start menu.
- Mac: Garmin Express can be found in the Applications folder in Finder.
3. Select the desired device or click Add a Device and follow the on-screen prompts if the device isn't listed
4. Click Tools & Content
5. Click the Purchased tab
6. Click Sign In and log in to the account used to purchase the map if the map is not listed
7. Click the cloud icon to download the map
Garmin Express™ will display the current progress. An Installation complete! message will display when the download is finished. Then the device can be safely disconnected from the computer.
