Removing and Inserting an SD Memory Card in a Honda Gold Wing

It may become necessary to remove or insert an SD card in your Honda Gold Wing (2012-2017) during troubleshooting or a map update. See Update the Maps on a Honda Gold Wing for more info on updating.

Removing and Inserting the SD memory Card(s)

The SD memory card containing map software and Navigation System software is located in the lower slot (1-b) of the Navi box (2) attached to the backside of the travel trunk. The upper slot (1-a) is for the SD memory card containing route share data (GPX data).

NOTE:

  • The Navigation System is a precision device that can be damaged by static electricity
    • Before touching the Navi box, discharge any static electricity by touching a metal area of your motorcycle outside the travel trunk
  • Do not use the SD memory card containing map software and Navigation System software to store route data

1. Make sure the ignition switch is OFF to remove an SD memory card containing map software and Navigation System software

2. Open the travel trunk cover

3. Push the latch (3) on the left side of the Navi box to open the cover

4. Push in to eject (or to insert) the SD memory card (1)

    • For an SD memory card for Map (1-b), open the rubber cover first.

Continue with the following steps only when updating the maps:

5. Insert the new SD memory card and push in until it clicks

NOTE: Make sure which slot your SD memory card should be inserted

6. Turn the ignition switch to ACC. It automatically starts updating. The initial Navigation System screen (sunrise beyond the Earth) will appear, followed by the Disclaimer screen. This means the update is completed.

7. Close the Navi box cover and push the latch to the right until it clicks. Ensure the cover is securely closed.

8. Close the travel trunk cover

9. To check the update was successful, go to the Setup / Info menu and select System Info. Ensure the screen identifies the new update.

10. Turn the ignition switch to OFF
