Issues Seeing Other Contacts on Rino's Map Screen
Rino series devices feature Peer-to-Peer Positioning. This allows Rinos to transmit their location to other Rinos. The transmitted location will then appear on the map screen of the Rino. If contacts are not appearing on the map screen, there are several settings or conditions that may be responsible, including the following:
- Send location needs to be On.
- Allow Polling needs to be On.
- Contacts in the group need to have established a GPS satellite position. If a contact loses a GPS position it will not be able to transmit its location.
- Set squelch tone to CTCSS if used with 100 or 500 series Rino models.
- If a Rino 100 series device is in the group, all Rino's in the group must have a squelch code other than Off selected.
- Rino 100 series and Rino 600/700 series devices allow radio communication, but they will not work together stably for the location or contact features.
- Radio channel and codes need to be identical between the Rino radios.
- Repeater Channel needs to be Off.
- The Rino 100 and 500 series radios have a scramble feature that Garmin was unable to include with the Rino 600 and 700 series. If using these Rino models with 600 or 700 series Rino devices, the scramble feature will need to be disabled.
The position of a contact can only be updated once every 30 seconds.
Rino radio transmissions are line of sight just as with any other radio transmitter. If a contact stops appearing on the map of your Rino, they may have lost satellite positioning or there may be something blocking their radio transmission.
For assistance setting up polling, see Related.
For assistance on disabling the repeater channel, consult the owner's manual for your device.
