Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) ID in the Garmin eLog App
During the setup of a vehicle profile in the Garmin eLog™ app, you may be required to enter a Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) ID.
The CMV ID (sometimes called a CMV Power Unit Number) is a carrier-assigned identification number for carriers with multiple vehicles. It is often included in dispatch documents. Some motor carriers may program a truck with the CMV ID, in which case it will automatically be entered if the Garmin eLog™ Compliant ELD has already been properly installed.
If it is not automatically entered, it will be necessary to manually enter the ID during setup. This can be obtained from your motor carrier if needed.
If you are an independent driver without a CMV ID or motor carrier, you may enter any CMV ID in this field. If you have more than one truck, each CMV ID entered must be unique between all vehicles used.
See a mechanic with a diagnostic tool if you have a preowned truck that may have a CMV ID already programmed.
