Troubleshooting a Software Update on a Fusion® Stereo
During a software update on a Fusion® stereo, the message Invalid Update appearing or the update seeming to finish very quickly without the new software version showing on the stereo, may rarely occur during the process. There are different ways to resolve this depending on how the update is being applied.
Updating via USB
- Check that the USB drive is formatted to FAT32
- Check that the USB drive has a capacity of at least 2gb and no more than 32gb
- Remove all other files from the USB drive besides the Garmin or Update folder (depending on the stereo being updated)
- Check that just the Garmin or Update folder (depending on the stereo being updated) is on the flash drive and that the whole zip file has not been moved to the drive
- Re-download the update file from the Garmin website
- Try a different USB flash drive
- Try updating via Fusion® Audio if the stereo is compatible
Updating via the Fusion® Audio app
- Check that the stereo is on software version 5.70 or higher
- Wireless updates will not work on a stereo with version 5.60 or lower
- Check for updates to Fusion Audio app in the Play / App store
- Check for updates available to the phone
- Restart the phone
- Delete and reinstall the Fusion Audio app
- Use a different USB cable (if applicable)
- Delete the stereo's Wi-Fi pairing from the phone and re-pair it (if applicable)
If all of the above are unsuccessful, there are several other options to try to resolve this issue, applicable regardless of how the update is being applied.
- Physically disconnect the stereo from power, either by pulling the wiring harness from the back or disconnecting the leads from the battery, for 5 minutes
- Perform a factory reset by selecting Menu > Settings > Update > Factory Reset
- Remove all connected network cables such as Ethernet and NMEA 2000 from the stereo
- For devices without displays such as the BB100 or WB670, connect only one remote or use Fusion Audio to perform the update and remove all other devices from the network
