Earthmate Hunt Guide
Earthmate® Outdoor and Hunt Edition subscriptions are no longer available for purchase. However, if you previously kept an active subscription for Earthmate Outdoor or Hunt Edition, you will be able to sync your tracks and waypoints and have access to download Game Management Units (GMU) as long as the Earthmate app is installed on your mobile device. Parcels and Public Land Surveys (PLSS) are no longer available to download, but will continue to work if they were downloaded previously. If the Earthmate app is uninstalled and reinstalled or the maps are deleted, Parcels and Public Land Surveys (PLSS) cannot be redownloaded.
The process for downloading Game Management Units is the same as downloading other maps using the Earthmate app. See Related for instructions on how to download and manage maps. The Earthmate app is available on the Garmin website.
NOTE:
Earthmate Hunt mapping is available for the United States only.
The information in these maps may not be current as they are no longer being updated.
These maps are vectored, so information will automatically be shown or hidden depending on the zoom level.
Being zoomed in closer will display more concise information than being zoomed out.
All three map layers can be enabled, but having them all enabled at the same time can be confusing, especially because Parcels and PLSS data may look similar.
We advise disabling unused layers to prevent confusion.
Disabling a Map Layer
- Touch the paper stack on the top right corner of the Map Tab.
- Clear the check box next to the map to hide.
Game Management Units
Game Management Units are used as a guide for Hunters to go out and hunt for specific game and learn game population. The codes that are shown on the map are specific by state and you will need to go to your State’s Government Wildlife Site, for more information about the codes. As always, it is important to check your government’s website to ensure that the information is correct as the information can change per season.
Land Parcels
Land Parcels are lots or plots which will assist in determining what areas are owned by a particular land owner. In some cases, there may be some information on how to contact the owner when you look through the selections lists. Like all the other maps, you will get more concise information if you zoom in.
NOTE: Parcels are visible after zooming in to the 20 mile range.
Public Land Surveys (PLSS)
Public Land Surveys show real property for sale and settling. This is useful to a hunter as it can be used to determine public and private land ownership.
NOTE: Some States do not have PLSS data. This includes most of the states on the East coast, with the exception of Florida and Texas.
