My Garmin Outdoor Watch Continues to Auto-Scroll and Background Changes Color

If your outdoor watch continues to auto-scroll and change color, even after disabling the Auto Scroll setting, it means that you are using an activity with Auto Climb enabled. To disable the Auto Climb setting, follow the steps below.

Disabling Auto Climb on an Outdoor Watch

  1. Press and hold UP/MENU (middle-left button).

  2. Select or scroll to Settings.

    • This step may not be required on some watches.

  3. Select Activities & Apps.

  4. Select the activity that is auto-scrolling.

  5. Select (Activity name) Settings.

  6. Select Auto Climb.

  7. Change Status to Off.

You may wish to remove color inversion or change the elevation change required to trigger Auto Climb as well.

NOTE: Not all models compatible with Auto Climb will have the settings listed below.


Disabling Color Inversion

  1. Press and hold UP/MENU (middle-left button).

  2. Select or scroll to Settings.

    • This step may not be required on some watches.

  3. Select Activities & Apps.

  4. Select the activity that is auto-scrolling.

  5. Select (Activity Name) Settings.

  6. Select Auto Climb.

  7. Change Invert Colors to Off.

Changing Elevation Gain Required

If you wish to continue using the Auto Climb feature but felt it was too sensitive or not sensitive enough then you can follow the instructions below to modify the elevation change required to trigger an alert.

  1. Press and hold UP/MENU (middle-left button).

  2. Select or scroll to Settings.

    • This step may not be required on some watches.

  3. Select Activities & Apps.

  4. Select the activity that you are using.

  5. Select (Activity Name) Settings.

  6. Select Auto Climb.

  7. Select Vertical Speed.

  8. Raise or lower to the desired speed.
