Setting a Primary Collection With the Garmin Explore Website or App

A compatible Garmin device can sync its newly created user data with either the Earthmate® app, Garmin Explore™ app, or inReach® Sync. Some inReach satellite communicators can be plugged into a computer to transfer data to and from the device using inReach Sync. For information, see - Transfer User Data To and From the Garmin Explore Website. User data consists of waypoints, routes, tracks or activities.

For new customers, the default setting will be to sync everything in your Library when you pair a new device. Primary Collections are used to control where that new data ends up within the Library's Collections on the Garmin Explore website. The data transferred to a Primary Collection still appears within the Library.

Library and Collections are part of the Garmin Explore website account, used to store and organize data.

At this time, selecting a Primary Collection can only be done on the Garmin Explore website or app.

How to Remove Lock Icon for Collection on Device

If you have a lock icon preventing you from turning off the collection from the device it is because that's the active collection and it can't be turned off from the device and it was selected to sync data. If you want to change it you can go to the Garmin Explore app.
  1. Select Devices
  2. Select the desire device
  3. Select Sync Settings

When we turn off a list item it hides it from the map and interface. The lock is to prevent newly marked waypoints from getting marked and then being hidden immediately.

Primary Collections Also Affect Data Synced to Earthmate-Paired Devices

For inReach devices that are compatible with the Earthmate app, the Primary Collection also dictates the data that is transferred to the paired device. For pairing steps, see Related.

For data created on the Garmin Explore website but not being seen on the device, it is likely that the Primary Collection has not been set, or the data is saved in another collection that is not set as the Primary Collection.

Once the Primary Collection is selected, any data saved to the Primary Collection automatically transfers to the device after syncing. The opposite is also true — any data created on the device automatically transfers to the Primary Collection and will be available in the Garmin Explore website after syncing.

For how to manually sync Earthmate, see - Syncing inReach Account Changes with the Earthmate App.
