Simulating a Route on an Automotive Device

Simulating a route allows you to see how the device will navigate you without actually driving the route; the vehicle icon will move and the device will speak the turn instructions. This feature is useful when you are in a location where a satellite signal cannot be accessed or for calculating a planned route.

To simulate a route on an automotive device, the GPS Simulator must be turned on.

To Turn GPS Simulator on:

  1. Touch Settings
  2. Touch Navigation
  3. Touch GPS Simulator to add a checkmark in the box
  4. Touch OK

You may now use the device to simulate a route to a given destination.

To Simulate a Route From a Different Starting Point Than Your Current Location:

  1. Go back to the main menu
    • View Map on some devices
  2. Touch the  Stop icon to stop any current routes
    • If this button is greyed out, that means that the device currently does not have a route active, and you will be able to simulate a route.
  3. Touch Where To? or Search
  4. Locate and select the starting point (address, POI, city, intersection, etc.)
  5. Touch the  info button
    • Skip this step on some devices
  6. Scroll down and touch Set Location

The device will now indicate that your current location is that of the location entered in step two. To simulate a route from that set location, return to the main menu, and enter the destination. When asked if you would like to simulate driving the route, touch Yes.

Note: If the two locations are separated by the ocean (e.g., starting in the US and attempting a route simulation to a point in Europe), the device will attempt the calculation but will not succeed. Instead, it will return an error stating that it cannot calculate the route. This can be corrected by placing both points on the same continent.
