Displayed arrival time on a Garmin chartplotter/sounder changes unexpectedly

An issue has been identified with some marine chartplotters where the time of day and route arrival times will incorrectly change. This change is caused by the device incorrectly changing time zones during use.

Do note, this issue has been resolved as of August 2015 in the mapping update, 2015.5 version (v17.0). There should no longer be any problems with times adjusting themselves.

If this error is encountered, and the charts can not be updated at this time, the time zone can be manually changed in the device settings to allow the chartplotter to show the proper time again. To change the time zone option on a GPSMAP series device:

  1. Start from the Home screen
  2. Select Configure/Settings
  3. Select Preferences
  4. Select Units
  5. Select Time
  6. Select Time Zone
  7. Select Custom

In order to change the time zone on an echoMAP series device:

  1. Start from the Home screen
  2. Select Settings
  3. Select Units
  4. Select Time Zone
  5. Select Custom

From that screen, you can adjust the time zone that your device is using, which can be adjusted until the time is accurate again. It will be necessary to change the time zone settings back on the return trip back.

Garmin is currently working on a permanent solution that will prevent this error from happening in the future. At this time, there is not an expected timeframe for this solution to become available.

Please refer to the Owner's Manual for the device for more instructions on adjusting time settings.
