Installing and Pairing the Tread App

The Tread® app is a free smartphone application allowing you to connect a compatible device and a compatible smartphone.

Contact your mobile service provider for more information about your service plan’s data and roaming rates.

NOTE: There is no limit to the number of navigation devices you can pair to the Tread app, but only one can be connected at a time.

To Install and Setup the Tread App on an Apple Device:

 1. Open the Tread app on your phone and set your phone to Find Me/Discoverable mode

  • Refer to the owner's manual for your phone if you are not sure how to set it to Find Me/Discoverable mode

  2. Touch Apps on the Garmin device

  3. Touch Tools

  4. Touch Settings (gear wheel icon) on the Garmin device

  5. Touch Wireless Networks

  6. Touch Bluetooth and ensure it is enabled

  7. Touch Pair a Device in the Tread app on the phone

  8. Touch Garmin Tread

  9. If Bluetooth is disabled on your phone, you will be prompted to enable it. 

 10. Touch Find Garmin Device

 11. Select the Tread from the list of devices

 12. Touch Pair on both the phone and the Tread

 13. Select Allow or Don't Allow for the notification permissions

 14. Touch Sign In. Touch Create Account if you don't have an account.

 15. Enter your email and password and touch Next

 16. Select Enable Garmin Explore™ or Maybe Later

The Tread app will automatically communicate with the device when the device and phone are powered on and in range of each other.

To Install and Setup the Tread App on an Android Device:

  1. Open the Tread app on your phone and set your phone to Find Me/Discoverable mode

  • Refer to the owner's manual for your phone if you are not sure how to set it to Find Me/Discoverable mode.

  2. Touch Apps on the Garmin device

  3. Touch Tools

  4. Touch Settings (gear wheel icon) on the Garmin device

  5. Touch Wireless Networks

  6. Touch Bluetooth and ensure it is enabled

  7. Touch Pair a Device in the Tread app on the phone

  8. Touch Garmin Tread

  9. If Bluetooth is disabled on your phone, you will be prompted to enable it. 

10. The Tread app will begin searching for the device

11. Touch Pair on the Garmin device. 

12. Touch Pair on the phone, if prompted

13. Enter the passkey listed on your Tread if prompted by your phone

14. Touch Sign In. Touch Create Account if you don't have an account.

15. Enter your email and password and touch Next

16. Select Set Notification Permissions or Skip for Now

17. Select Enable Garmin Explore™ or Maybe Later

The Tread app will automatically communicate with the device when the device and phone are powered on and in range of each other.
