Managing Maps on the Montana 700 Series With Garmin Express
The Manage Maps feature allows you to view, update, remove, or add TopoActive or City Navigator maps on the Montana® 700, 700i, 710, 710i, 750i and 760i outdoor handhelds. It also allows you to view, update, remove, or add maps.
For syncing inReach® account changes and user data (waypoints, routes, tracks, and activities), see Related for pairing and syncing with the Garmin Explore™ app.
Important Notes
For the Montana 700, 700i, and 750i, you cannot replace the region of maps that your device came with. For example, you cannot replace TopoActive North America with TopoActive Europe.
The Montana 710, 710i, and 760i have worldwide TopoActive maps available that can be managed through Garmin Express or directly from the handheld. For a full list of available TopoActive map regions, see - Using Map Manager on the Montana 710, 710i, and 760i.
Data stored on the device (waypoints, routes, tracks, and activities) is kept in a separate reserved part of the device memory so it does not impact the free space.
You can install a microSD® memory card, up to 32 GB, in the handheld device for additional storage.
At this time, there are no plans to provide the Manage Maps feature to older devices.
Garmin Express is not compatible with mobile devices, like smartphones or tablets. If you are looking for help to troubleshoot Garmin Express issues, visit the Garmin Express Support Page.
Managing Maps With Garmin Express
If this is your first time using a computer with your handheld, you will need to download and install the Garmin Express program. For information on downloading and installing Garmin Express, see - How Do I Install Garmin Express?.
NOTE: With recent map updates the preloaded mapping is not able to fit completely on the internal storage of the Montana 700i or 750i. It is best to install certain maps only or to use a microSD card for extra storage space. When using the Manage Maps option in Garmin Express the microSD card will be called Removable Storage.
Connect your handheld to your computer with the USB cable.
Garmin Express will then display available updates. If it says you are up to date, then the software and maps currently installed to your handheld are on the most current version(s).
Install or Install All installs updates to software and any maps that are currently installed to your handheld.
View Details shows details on the specific updates (software, GPS, or map).
Map Details shows what maps are currently installed to your handheld. If you click on it and then Options, this will allow you to reinstall any maps that are already up to date.

After selecting your device in Garmin Express, click on the Manage Maps button to open the Manage Maps page.

Adding or Removing Maps
Preloaded maps can be installed to the internal storage of the Montana device (My Maps), or to a microSD card (Removable Storage) as a way to free up space on the device. If you do not need some of your preloaded maps, you can remove them with the ability to add them back at any time.
NOTE: Map selections that are currently installed cannot be moved from My Maps to Removable Storage or vice versa without first removing the map from its current location.
