Purchasing and Downloading a New Map Region for a Garmin OEM Device
Garmin offers a wide variety of options when looking to purchase maps of other countries. Follow these instructions to purchase and install a new map to your device. Pre-loaded maps on your device will still work after installing the new maps.
The purchase process is quick and easy. The installation process may take several hours depending on the map you select and the speed of your internet connection. The device can be left unattended once the installation is started.

What is Needed
- Compatible Garmin Automotive device
- See Mapping Availability and Compatibility with Garmin Portable OEM Devices for more information.
- USB cable
- See Types of USB Cables Used to Connect Automotive Devices to the Computer for more information.
- SD card if the map will not fit on the internal storage of the device
- The storage space requirements (Map File Sizes) can be found on the Requirements tab on the purchase page for the map
- Windows or Mac computer with the Garmin Express application installed
- High-speed internet connection
- DSL, Cable, or other high-speed Internet connections are required. Mobile broadband (such as MiFi, AirCard, or cell phone tethering), satellite, fixed wireless, and dial-up Internet connections are not supported
- Credit card to purchase the map
To Purchase the Map
Select a map from our City Navigator® NT maps page.
Click the Compatible Devices tab to make sure the map is compatible with the device.
Select Download in the Version drop-down box and click Add to Cart.
Verify the order is correct and click Check Out.
Sign in or create a Garmin account, if prompted.
Select the shipping address or enter a new one and click Continue.
Enter the billing address and click Continue.
Verify the order information is correct and click Continue to Payment.
Fill in the credit card information fields and click Place Secure Order.
A confirmation screen will be displayed when the order is complete and the map is ready to install to the device.
To Install the Map with Garmin Express
1. Connect the Garmin device to the computer with the appropriate USB cable

2. Launch Garmin Express
- Windows: Double-click the express icon in the system tray (next to the time), double-click the shortcut on the desktop, or search for Garmin Express in the Start menu
- Mac: Garmin Express can be found in the Applications folder in Finder
3. Select the desired device or click Add a Device and follow the on-screen prompts if the device isn't listed
4. Click Tools & Content
5. Click the Purchased tab
6. Click Sign In and log in to the account used to purchase the map if the map is not listed
7. Click the cloud icon to download the map
Garmin Express will display the current progress. An Installation complete! message will display when the download is finished. Then the device can be safely disconnected from the computer.
Tip: Hover the mouse cursor over the progress bar to get detailed progress information.
