How Does the Move Alert Work on a Garmin Watch?

All Garmin® watches that feature an activity tracker will have a move alert built-in to encourage users to stay active throughout the day. Depending on your watch model, it will feature the following:

  • Move Notification: An alert that will display the notification "Let's Get Moving" accompanied by a vibration or tone based on the model of device. This will display after one hour of inactivity and reset after a couple minutes of walking.

  • Move Bar: A progressive bar representing the amount of time you have been idle. The first large bar will appear after an hour and each additional bar equals 15 minutes. After one hour of inactivity the watch will display a "Move!" notification.

  • Movement Alert: An alert that will display the notification "Let's Get Active" with the option to start guided movements instead of walking. 

To find out which move alert options are available on your watch, search "move alert" in your owner's manual.

Disabling the Move Alert

Most activity trackers will allow for the move alert to be turned off. For instructions on turning off the move alert, select your platform below.

NOTE: The vívoactive®, vívofit®, vívofit® 2, and vívosmart® watches do not have an option to disable the Move Alert.


Garmin Connect™ App

The following instructions should work for most watches. See device specific instructions below for more information.

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app.

  2. Access the menu by selecting More (bottom right). 

  3. Select Garmin Devices.

  4. Select desired device (if multiple devices owned).

  5. Select Device Settings, Activity Tracking, or Health & Wellness.

  6. Select Alerts & Notifications (device specific).

  7. Toggle Move Alert.

  8. Sync the watch.

Move alerts will now be disabled from displaying on the watch.


Approach® S50 Watches

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app.

  2. Access the menu by selecting More (bottom right). 

  3. Select Garmin Devices.

  4. Select desired device (if multiple devices owned).

  5. Select Notifications & Alerts.

  6. Select Health & Wellness.

  7. Select Move Alert.

  8. Select On or Off.

  9. Sync the watch.


Enduro™ 3 | fēnix® 8 Series | fēnix® E | tactix® 8 Watches

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app.

  2. Access the menu by selecting More (bottom right). 

  3. Select Garmin Devices.

  4. Select desired device (if multiple devices owned).

  5. Select Notifications & Alerts.

  6. Select Health & Wellness.

  7. Select Move Alert.

  8. Select On or Off.

  9. Sync the watch.


Forerunner® 570 | Forerunner® 970 | Lily® 2 Active | Venu® 3 | Venu® 3S | Venu® X1 | vívoactive® 5 | vívoactive® 6 Watches

The menu structure for these devices is slightly different the steps are as follows.

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app.

  2. Access the menu by selecting More (bottom right).

  3. Select Garmin Devices.

  4. Select the desired device (if multiple devices owned).

  5. Select Notifications & Alerts.

  6. Select Health & Wellness.

  7. Toggle Move Alert.

The setting should automatically be changed on your watch. 



Garmin Connect™ Web

NOTE: Steps below will not be available for devices with Real Time Settings.

  1. From a web browser sign into Garmin Connect.

  2. Select watch icon in the upper right corner.

  3. Select the desired device (if multiple devices owned).

  4. Select Device Settings or Activity Tracking.

  5. Toggle Move Alert to grey.

  6. Select Save Settings.

  7. Sync the watch.

Move alerts will now be disabled from displaying on the watch.


You can also disable the move alert directly on some Garmin watches. Refer to your owner's manual for instructions.
