Customizing Android Text Responses in the Garmin Connect App

Many Garmin® devices allow you to reply to a text message or an incoming call when paired to an Android™ phone. This feature is not available with Apple® phones.

Some devices can only use preset responses, some can customize text message responses through the Garmin Connect app, and some allow you to type out a reply on the watch using a keyboard (see device lists below for compatibility).

Using this feature will send a text message using your phone. Regular text message limits and charges from your carrier and phone plan may apply.

NOTICE: Contact names that contain an emoji or special character will not have the option to reply from the device. Not all apps are supported by all device models.

Devices That Use Preset Responses Only

These devices do not support additional preset text replies or responses for declined calls. They will all have a limited number of responses that are designed towards the primary usage of the device. Such as the Edge devices will have cycling oriented responses, while the Lily will have very basic messages without an activity type in mind.

These devices can reply to a text message or incoming call using a keyboard on the watch.

Creating a New Response

NOTE: Refer to the compatible device list to see if your device is compatible with customized responses.

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app on your phone.

  2. Select More (bottom right).

  3. Select Garmin Devices.

  4. Select your device.

  5. Select Text Responses.

    • If you do not see Text Responses as an option, it will be under another setting such as Device Settings > Notification Alerts  or Sound & Alerts or Notifications.

  6. Select Respond to Messages/Text Response or Respond to Incoming Calls/Incoming Call Response.

  7. Select '+' in the top right of the app to create a new message.

  8. Type your new message using up to 140 characters.

  9. Select Save and sync your device.

Editing a Response Message

NOTE: Preset responses cannot be edited. Refer to the compatible device list to see if your device is compatible with customized responses.

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app on your phone.

  2. Select More (bottom right).

  3. Select Garmin Devices.

  4. Select your device from the screen.

  5. Select Text Responses.

    • If you do not see Text Responses as an option, it will be under another setting such as Device Settings > Notification Alerts or Sound & Alerts or Notifications.

  6. Select Respond to Messages/Text Response or Respond to Incoming Calls/Incoming Call Response.

  7. Select the - (minus symbol) to remove messages or + (plus symbol) to add them, or you can touch on the text of a message to edit it.

  8. Select Save and sync your device.
