Full Reset of the inReach Mini 2

In most cases we recommend using the normal Reset Default Settings method found in the device menu (see - Resetting All Default Settings). In some instances this may not be possible, such as if the handheld is in the wrong language. If you need to reset your inReach® Mini 2 satellite communicator and are unable to use the normal Reset Default Settings method, follow the steps below.

To Factory Restore the inReach Mini 2

NOTE: If your inReach Mini 2 communicator has been paired with the Garmin Explore™ or Garmin Messenger™ app, you will need to pair it again after resetting the device. For pairing instructions, see Related.

  1. Ensure the device is powered off.
  2. Press and hold Black Triangle Down Button, Black Back Arrow on White Background, and Power simultaneously.
  3. Once Garmin appears on the screen, release the Power button.
  4. Wait for the device to beep once, then release Black Triangle Down Button.
  5. Wait for the device to beep a second time, then release Black Back Arrow on White Background.

  6. Choose the correct language when prompted.

  7. The device will start the activation setup wizard which can be completed either by using the Garmin Messenger app or by taking the device outside:

    • Using the Garmin Messenger app:

      1. Download the Garmin Messenger app when prompted, or open the app if it has already been downloaded.

      2. Follow the prompts in the Garmin Messenger to pair a device. If the inReach Mini 2 was previously connected, it may need to be removed from the app before it can be paired again (see Pairing an inReach Mini 2 With the Garmin Messenger App).

      3. Select Activate Now on the inReach Mini 2 once it has been connected in the Garmin Messenger app.

      4. Wait for the inReach Mini 2 to finish confirming activation.

    • Taking the device outside:

      1. Take the device outside and ensure that it has a clear view of the sky.

      2. When prompted to download the Garmin Messenger app, press OK then select Skip.

      3. Select Activate Now, even if the device has previously been activated.

      4. Press OK.

      5. Press OK again.

      6. Wait for the device to finish confirming activation. Depending on your location and your surroundings, this may only take a matter of seconds, or it may take up to 30 minutes.
