Entering an MMSI Number Into a Garmin VHF Radio
The Mobile Maritime Safety Identity (MMSI) number is a nine-digit code that acts as a DSC self-identification number and is required in order to use the DSC capabilities of the radio.
After Obtaining a MMSI Number, it must be programmed into the radio to enable DSC. To enter the MMSI number, follow these instructions:
Power ON the VHF Radio
Press the Menu button
Select DSC
Select My MMSI
For each number in the sequence, turn the channel knob clockwise to increase the number, and counter-clockwise to decrease the number. Press the channel knob to move to the next number in the sequence. Select the Back Arrow icon to return to a previous character.
Select Accept once the MMSI number has been entered correctly1
Enter the MMSI number one more time and choose Accept. If the MMSI numbers do not match, the screen will display "MMSI NUMBERS DO NOT MATCH". If this happens, select Retry and repeat the process
1Ensure that the MMSI number is entered into the VHF radio correctly as it can only be entered once. If the MMSI number is entered incorrectly, the VHF radio will need to be sent into Garmin to have the incorrect MMSI number cleared. Contact Product Support to have an RMA (Return Materials Authorization) issued prior to sending in the device. This will ensure the fastest service in resolving the issue.
