My Automotive Device Doesn't Speak Street Names

Garmin automotive GPS devices that have the ability to speak street names are also loaded with pre-recorded voices that do not speak street names (for example, it will say "Turn right in 500 feet" instead of "Turn right at Metcalf Avenue"). If one of the pre-recorded voices has been selected, it will not speak street names.

To hear the name of the street spoken, you will need to select a voice on the device that will be shown with one of the following labels, depending on the device model:

  • Speaks Street Names
  • Speaks Garmin Real Directions™
  • Supports OK Garmin spoken responses

To Change the Voice Language on your Device:

  1. Touch Settings
  2. Touch Language & Keyboard or System
  3. Touch Voice Language
  4. Touch the desired voice with one of the labels listed above
  5. Touch Save

The device will now give directions speaking street names in the selected voice language.
