Viewing Outdoor Maps Plus Content With BaseCamp

The current version of Garmin BaseCamp™ software allows you to view certain types of Outdoor Maps+ content when a compatible device is connected. Outdoor Maps+ content must first be downloaded directly to the compatible device via Wi-Fi. New Outdoor Maps+ content cannot be downloaded via the BaseCamp program. Types of Outdoor Maps+ Content That Can Be Viewed in BaseCamp Software

NOTE: Satellite imagery and USGS Quads (raster maps) that have been downloaded to the Garmin device cannot be viewed in BaseCamp software.

  • Garmin OM+ US Core
    • Includes Contours, Hydro, and PLSS (Public Land Survey System) data
  • Garmin HMU
    • Includes Hunting Management Units
  • Garmin OM+ US Core Base
    • Includes Quad names
  • Garmin OM+ US Core POI
    • Includes outdoor points of interest
  • Garmin Parcel Map
    • Includes state plat maps to help identify landowner names and boundaries for public/private land types
  • Garmin Public Land Map
    • Includes public land boundaries to show the differences in National Forest, reservations, BLM, etc.

Selecting Outdoor Maps+ Data Within BaseCamp Software

First, connect the Garmin device to the computer. Once connected, maps can be selected in BaseCamp software with the steps below.

  1. Open BaseCamp program.
  2. Click Maps from the top toolbar.
  3. Select the desired map product from the list.
    • Some maps may take an extended amount of time to set up in the BaseCamp program the first time they are used. The progress can be viewed in the left panel of BaseCamp software under the name of the card or device:

After selecting a map product from the list, the maps should be viewable in BaseCamp program. 

NOTE: Due to licensing restrictions, Outdoor Maps+ content will be limited to a reduced map window for printing.


Detail From My Map Is Still Not Showing

If you followed the steps above and your map detail is still not displayed, see below for possible reasons.

  • Ensure your map is not zoomed too far out or too far in.
    • Windows users: The current zoom level is indicated at the bottom right corner on the map.
    • Mac users: The current zoom level is indicated at the bottom left corner on the map.
    • Example of what this looks like: 
  • Windows users only: Make sure the Basic Map Only is not selected. This overrides any selected map and will only display major cities and highways
    • Select View from the top toolbar. Basic Map Only is selected if it has a check-mark. Click on it to un-check.
