Exporting an Activity From Garmin Connect and Transferring the Data to a Garmin Outdoor Handheld

Activities recorded and synced to your Garmin Connect™ account can be exported and transferred for use with a Garmin outdoor handheld using our free BaseCamp™ software. 

Exporting an Activity From Garmin Connect

  1. Sign into the Garmin Connect website.

  2. Select Activities from the navigation bar on the left.

  3. Select All Activities.

  4. Select the name of the activity you would like to export.

  5. Select the settings gear in the top right corner.

  6. Select the Export to GPX from the drop-down menu.

The file will then begin to download and appear in the downloads folder on your computer. 

Importing and Converting an Activity in BaseCamp

Importing an Activity

First, you need to import the GPX file(s) into BaseCamp with the steps below.

  1. Open Garmin BaseCamp.
  2. Select My Collection.
  3. Select the File drop-down menu from the top toolbar.
  4. Select Import...
  5. Browse to the GPX file location from the Import File window.
  6. Select Open for Windows, or Import for Mac.

The activity will have been imported into BaseCamp as a track. After importing the file into BaseCamp you will need to convert the track to a route.

Converting a Track to a Route

Windows

  1. Open Garmin BaseCamp.
  2. Select a track.
  3. Select File > New > Direct Route from Selected Track.
  4. Enter the maximum number of points to add to the route (optional).
  5. Select OK.

Mac

  1. Open Garmin BaseCamp.
  2. Select a track.
  3. Select Edit > Create Route from Track > OK.

    The new route appears next to the track.

Once the track has been converted to a route you can transfer that route to the desired GPS unit.

Transferring GPX Files to a Garmin Outdoor Handheld

Now you can select the data and transfer it with the steps below.

Windows

  1. Connect the Garmin to your computer.
  2. Select the data to send.
    • To send one or more items, or a list:
      1. Select an item, list, or multiple items (using CTRL+Click or Shift+Click).
      2. Select the Device drop-down menu.
      3. Hover over Send To Device.
      4. Select Send ['Name'] to Device, or  Send Selection to Device.
    • To send all saved data:
      1. Select the My Collection folder.
      2. Select the Device drop-down menu.
      3. Hover over Send To Device.
      4. Select Send 'My Collection' to Device.
  3. Select the device to which you want to send the selected data.
  4. Select OK.

The selected data will now be transferred to your handheld.

Mac

  1. Connect the Garmin to your computer.
  2. Select the data to send.
    • To send one or more individual items:
      1. Select a list, or the My Collection folder.
      2. Select an item, or multiple items (using Command+Click or Shift+Click).
      3. Click and drag the highlighted items to the Garmin in the upper left-hand corner.
    • To send all saved data:
      1. Select a list, or the My Collection folder.
      2. Select the Transfer drop-down menu.
      3. Select Send ['Name'] to Device.
      4. Check the boxes for the data you want to send.
      5. Select Send to send a list of all saved data to the Gamin.

The selected data will now be transferred to your handheld.
