Can I Crop or Trim a Timed Activity Using Garmin Connect?

Trimming or cropping an activity in your Garmin Connect™ account allows you to edit the start or end time of your activity if you started the timer too soon or stopped it too late giving you a more accurate view of your performance.

NOTE: If you are trimming an outdoor GPS activity, the map route will not change.

Where Can I Find This Feature?

You can trim activities using the Garmin Connect app or Garmin Connect web. Select your preferred platform below to reveal instructions.


Garmin Connect App Instructions

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app.

  2. Select More (bottom right).

  3. Select Activities.

  4. Select All Activities.

  5. Select the activity you want to trim.

  6. Select the 3 dots in the top right.

  7. Select Edit Activity.

  8. Select Trim Activity.

  9. Select Time or Distance and make your edits in the Trim Start or Trim End fields.

  10. After entering your new values for time or distance, select Save, then select Save again.


Garmin Connect Web Instructions

  1. From a web browser, sign into your Garmin Connect account.

  2. Select Activities from the navigation bar on the left.

  3. Select All Activities.

  4. Select a saved activity in Garmin Connect. You can then choose the option to Edit Activity in one of two ways:

    • You can select the pencil icon in the upper right corner, then click the Trim Activity in the lower-left corner.

    • You can select the gear icon in the upper right, then select Trim Activity from the drop-down menu.

  5. Select Time or Distance and make your edits in the Trim Start or Trim End fields.

  6. After entering your new values for time or distance, select Save in the upper right, then select Save again.

I Trimmed Too Much From My Activity, Can I Fix It?

Any activity that has been trimmed will have an option under Edit Activity labeled Restore Original. Selecting this option will revert the changes you previously made.

I Am Not Seeing the Option to Trim My Activity

If you do not see the Trim Activity option, this could be due to the file type or the activity type being unsupported. File types such as GPX or TCX do not support Activity Trimming. This applies to manually uploaded GPX or TCX activity files and files uploaded by older Garmin devices that only record activities in those file formats. Most activity types have the option to Trim My Activity however, some activity types are not supported. Select the following to reveal a list of unsupported activity types:

Are Trimmed Activities Updated With Third-Party Sites Such As Strava or MyFitnessPal?

No. Trimming an activity will only update Garmin Connect activities.

Is All Data Updated When an Activity Is Trimmed?

Some data will remain unchanged after a trim is performed. This includes:

  • Calories Consumed

  • Fluid Consumed

  • Garmin Coach Assessments

  • Heat and Altitude Acclimation

  • Training Effect

  • Training Load

  • Training Status

  • VO2 Max
