Navionics Boating: Selecting Chart Layers and Map Overlays

Change the display of chart layers and overlays in the Navionics® Boating app by doing the following:

  1. Tap the Map Options button Map Options Icon in the lower-left of the screen, or go to Menu > Map Options
  2. Select a Chart Layer
  3. Select your Map Overlay

Chart Layers

Nautical Chart:

  • Essential cartographic reference for boaters worldwide for lakes and marine areas
  • Derived from government and private sources
  • Includes port plans, safety depth contours, tides and currents, navigation aids, nearby marine services and more

SonarChart™:

  • HD bathymetry map featuring extraordinary bottom contour detail for marine and lakes
  • Increases awareness of shallow waters and for locating fishing areas at any depth level
  • Constantly enhanced by millions of sonar logs contributed by boaters

US Govt. Chart:

  • Include the NOAA Electronic Navigational Charts for U.S. coastal and navigable waterways plus additional shorelines of major lakes and rivers
  • Included with these coverage areas: US & Canada and Mexico, Caribbean to Brazil

Overlays

Map Overlays require an active subscription for the specific coverage area.


Satellite Imagery:

  • Top-down satellite overlay of coastal and lake areas
  • Provides a realistic view of your surroundings
  • Ideal for entering unfamiliar harbors or ports

Relief Shading:

  • A highly detailed shading combining color and shadow
  • Provide an easy-to-interpret, clearer view of bottom structure
  • Use the toggle to add Satellite Imagery

Sonar Imagery:

  • For select lakes
  • Reveals bottom hardness clearly and in vivid color, highlighting both subtle and dramatic transition areas
  • Use the toggle to add Satellite Imagery

Other map options are not available when US Govt. Chart is enabled.
