How Do I Set Up My Index Sleep Monitor?
Follow the pairing instructions in your owner's manual if you are setting up the Index Sleep Monitor for the first time.
If you need to readd your Index Sleep Monitor, ensure it is no longer listed in the Garmin Connect™ app or your phone's Bluetooth® before trying to re-pair. For instructions, see Remove and Add a Device From the Garmin Connect App. Then grab your Index Sleep Monitor and place your finger on the heart rate sensor for 5 seconds and wait until the device boots up. It will flash white while it tries to connect to a phone. Rapidly tap on the module 10 times within 2 seconds. This should initiate the pairing mode and the device will flash purple until a new phone is paired.
What is the Best Way To Use This Device?
The Index Sleep Monitor will go idle after 5 minutes of non-use. Wake the monitor up by putting your finger on the heart rate sensor for 5 seconds. The LED light will flash white accompanied by a vibration as it is rebooting. When it is fully rebooted, the LED will flash purple briefly followed by a series of short vibrations. At this point, take off any other wearable Garmin® device and slide the Index Sleep Monitor up your arm in a comfortable position. Sleep as normal. After waking, slide the monitor off your arm but be mindful not to cover the heart rate sensor or put it on a reflective surface. As long as your phone is nearby with the app running then your data will sync within a few minutes.
How Does Sleep Tracking Work?
For detailed information about sleep tracking, see Sleep Tracking with the Index Sleep Monitor.
Can I Track Naps?
The Index Sleep Monitor does not record naps. The monitor should be used at or near the set sleep schedule for best results. For information on how to edit your sleep schedule, search "sleep schedule" in your owner's manual.
Can It Be Used for Broadcasting Heart Rate Data or Activity Tracking?
No, the Index Sleep Monitor cannot broadcast heart rate, record steps or activities. It is designed to use only while sleeping.
Does Sleep Data Captured by My Index Sleep Monitor Impact My Training Metrics?
Yes, sleep data from the Index Sleep Monitor will be integrated into your training metrics to update recovery time and training readiness.
Can I Set an Alarm?
Yes, for more information search "alarms" in your owner's manual.
How Should It Be Worn?
The Index Sleep Monitor is meant to be worn on the upper arm with the heart rate sensor touching the skin. It does not need to be in a precise spot. The most important thing is that it is consistently worn in a similar spot and it is comfortable. It can take trial and error to find the spot most comfortable to you. The Index Sleep Monitor should be snug, not too tight or too loose. The device also should not be pinned between your arm and the bed, so wear it on your outer arm if you are a slide sleeper. For more information search "wearing the sleep band" in your owner's manual.
Does It Matter Which Way I Put The Armband On?
It does not matter which direction you put the armband on. The monitor just needs to be on the upper arm with the sensor squarely on the skin.
What Is the Material of the Band?
The band is composed of a mix of synthetic materials (70% nylon, 30% spandex) that have been specifically chosen for breathability, comfort and flexibility. The band also has plastic and woven fabric materials used to create the adjustment mechanism.
Can I Wash My Index Sleep Monitor?
The band can be washed but you must remove the module first. For instructions, search "washing" in your owner's manual.
How Do I Know When to Charge The Monitor?
The LED will flash red when the battery is critically low. You can also check the battery percentage in the Garmin Connect app or enable push notifications so you are alerted when the battery is low.
