Honda Map Update USB Not Detected by Garmin Express on a Windows Computer

USB communication issues can prevent your USB drive from being detected by the Garmin Express™ software.

Before starting the map update process, visit https://honda.garmin.com/honda for instructions on preparing your USB flash drive for the map update process.

Using the Same USB Flash Drive for the Honda Map Update / Formatting the USB Flash Drive

When doing a Honda map update you may use the same USB flash drive that was used for a previous map update.  Prior to using the flash drive for the new update however, you will want to completely format the drive.
Once the flash drive has been formatted, you will want to follow the full update process found at https://honda.garmin.com/honda/

Ensure that Windows Recognizes the USB Drive

When a device is properly connected to a Windows computer, it will be displayed as a removable disk or portable device

To verify that Windows detects the USB drive:

1. Connect the USB drive to the computer

2. Press the Windows Key ()+ E

3. Click This PC (Windows 10 and newer)

The USB drive will be listed under Devices and Drives in Windows 10. In older version of Windows, the USB drive will be listed under Devices with Removable Storage.

USB Drive Does not Display as a Drive in Windows

Try the steps below if the USB drive does not appear as a drive in Windows or appears as an "unknown device" in the Windows Device Manager.

Ensure the USB port is Working Properly:

  • Try a different USB port on your computer and/or test the USB port with a different USB device
  • Avoid connecting through a USB hub, USB extension cable, keyboard, or monitor
  • On desktop computers, use the USB ports on the back of your computer

Disable USB Selective Suspend:

On Windows, USB Selective Suspend will limit power to connected USB devices, including your Garmin device. It can potentially cause recognition problems.

Contact your computer's manufacturer for instructions to disable USB Selective Suspend.
