Automotive Device Shows Me in Miami, London, or Other Location
A brand new device may show your location in Miami, FL (the default out-of-box location for North American devices) SW1, LDN (the default out-of-box location for European devices), or other location from where you are, when first powered on. Other regions will have different default out-of-the-box locations.
This is due to the device not having acquired a satellite signal yet. To acquire satellite signal, the device needs a clear view of the sky.
To Acquire Satellite Signal:
- Walk outside with the device while it is powered on, and wait until the device acquires satellite signal. This should take about 60 seconds, but can take up to 5 minutes.
- Use the device on a short drive. While in use in the vehicle, it should acquire satellite signal after a short time.
A device that has been reset will also show the above default location until a satellite signal has been acquired.
If Your Device Does Not Acquire Satellite Signal, see the Troubleshooting for Your Specific Device in our Support Center:
- Go to Support Center
- Enter your Product Name or Serial Number (Ex. Garmin DriveSmart 66)
- Click in the Search for a solution... field and type Satellite Signal
- Click on "Garmin Automotive Device isn't Acquiring Satellites"
