Errors on an Automotive Device when Plugged into a Vehicle Power Cable

The USB port on the device may not be properly recognizing the cable if the device shows an error when connected to the vehicle power cable.

Symptoms of this Include:

• The device displays the error Attached power cable is not supported.

• The device displays the error The connected power cable does not support traffic.

• The device displays the error Low Battery.

• The connection between the vehicle power cable and the device is loose.

• The device shows an icon of a computer on the screen.

To Resolve this Issue:

1. Update the software on the device.

   • Go to the Support Center and enter the product name or the serial number of your device.

   • Click Software in the panel on the left under the device name/picture for full instructions.

2. Verify the cable being used is the vehicle power cable packaged with the device.

   • These will typically have the word GARMIN stamped on the plug and be labeled Car Charger, TA, or GTM on the back.

   • Do not plug the device into a USB port in the vehicle, as this could cause the above errors.

   • Third-party cables may not properly work with the device and could cause the error in question.

3. Ensure the car charger is inserted into the correct port on the device completely and securely.

4. Ensure the vehicle power cable and USB port on the mounting bracket or device are not damaged.

5. Turn off the device instead of activating Standby/Sleep/Suspend mode to prevent battery loss.

   • To turn off the device, press and hold the Power button for several seconds and then press Off.

   • It will require several seconds to reboot a device after it has been fully turned off.

   • This will shut down the device and best preserve its battery charge.
